Increase of the Guaranteed Minimum Wage (SMIG)

The new social agreement, signed on 25 April 2019, provides for an increase in the guaranteed minimum wage of 10% over two years, 5% from July 2019 and 5% in July 2020.



The amounts of the SMIG and SMAG were set by a decree published in the Official Gazette n°6790 of 27 June. Thus, the amounts of the SMIG and SMAG were fixed by a decree published in the Official Gazette n°6790 of June 27th:

  • From July 1st, 2019, the legal minimum wage (SMIG) for one hour of work is set at 14.13 DH for liberal professions and the industry and trade sectors. This amount will rise to 14.81 DH from 1 July 2020.
  • For the agriculture sector, the legal minimum wage (SMAG) for a working day is set at MAD 73.22, from 1 July 2019. This amount will rise to 76.70 DH from 1 July 2020. The decree also emphasizes that the application of this measure must in no case remove or reduce the benefits in kind of agricultural employees.
